Local COVID-19 tests, both PCR and LDR antigen, are widely available in the Turks and Caicos. Many hotels and resorts offer free tests for guests, and for others they are available for $50.
For persons flying to the United States (including citizens and residents), you must complete an attestation form. A copy will normally be provided by your testing center when you get a local COVID-19 test.
The tests required for return to the US and offered by hotels and resorts are the lateral flow tests (LFD type test). These types of tests return a result in a few minutes.
If you test negative, a certificate will be issued for your departure.
If you test positive, another test will be done. If negative this second time, a certificate will be issued for your departure.
If you test positive for the second test, a PCR test will be arranged and you must self-isolate at your place of residence.
If the PCR test returns positive, you must quarantine at your place of residence for 14 days or until you have authorization from the Ministry of Health to depart.
Local Turks and Caicos COVID-19 Testing Locations
There are several locations in the Turks and Caicos which offer COVID-19 testing, and more are expected to be added shortly. Most locations offer antigen testing that meets the CDC requirements for entry to the United States. ACCU Diagnostics offers the RT-PCR and antigen tests, and can provide results in as little as a few hours.
The 12 January 2021 announcement of the CDC that all travelers to the United States would require a negative COVID-19 test prompted the Turks and Caicos Government to establish a task force to address the issue. Steps were urgently taken to address the insufficient local testing capacity, both at the Government lab and also by private labs.
By 25 January 2021, the Turks and Caicos expanded testing capacity to 40,000 COVID-19 tests per month, which exceeded monthly arrivals.
