Long Weekend Itinerary for Turks and Caicos

While the typical Turks and Caicos vacation is about a week long, it’s certainly possible to see quite a bit on a four-day trip to the archipelago. You can explore some of the country's most popular beaches, book a boat cruise to go snorkeling and visit uninhabited cays, and sample the country’s excellent dining scene.
Several factors make Turks and Caicos a convenient location for a quick Caribbean getaway. There are daily direct flights from numerous major US cities, including Miami, New York, and Atlanta, with no time change for travelers living in Eastern Standard Time (EST) cities. The country uses the US dollar, and the official language is English.
This itinerary is for the main island of Providenciales, where nearly all visitors to the Turks and Caicos spend their stay and where you can find the largest selection of accommodation, restaurants, and things to do.

Day 1: Arrive on Providenciales

All international flights to Providenciales land at the Providenciales International Airport (PLS), the country's primary international airport. For a smooth start to your trip and to save precious vacation time, you might want to consider booking airport fast track service, which allows you to use expedited immigration and customs processing lanes. Many flights arrive in the early to mid-afternoon, and during peak travel times when several planes disembark around the same time, wait times at immigration can be 1–2 hours.
Renting a car is highly recommended if you plan to visit Turks and Caicos for only a few days, as there is no public transportation in the country and taxis are rather expensive. Several rental companies offer convenient airport pickup and can have your rental car, SUV, or Jeep ready for you at the airport upon arrival.
Once you’ve picked up your rental car, check into your accommodation. The typical check-in time for most hotels on Providenciales is around 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM for villas and vacation rentals. If you’re staying at a rental property, now is a good time to stop at one of the island’s grocery stores to stock up on snacks, beverages, and other necessities.
After settling in, take in the sunset at one of the many fabulous Providenciales beaches. The best place to watch the sunset varies by season (see Sunrise and Sunset Times), but world-famous Grace Bay Beach and Leeward Beach are typically excellent.
Several restaurants and lounges, such as Castaways Conch Bar & Island Grill and The Abandoned Bar, host live music on Fridays. See Live Music for a list of performances you can catch during dinner.
Day 2: Grace Bay Beach and Exploring Provo

Your first full day on Providenciales (locally known as Provo) is a great time to visit Grace Bay Beach, which frequently ranks among the best beaches in the world. With a wide white-sand shoreline and crystal-clear water, Grace Bay is an excellent place for swimming and several water sports. Rent a paddleboard or sea kayak, try parasailing, or simply unwind on the soft white sand.
Numerous beachfront restaurants can be found on Grace Bay and offer lunch with a view. Choices range from the more laid-back Rickie’s, Solana’s, and Hemingway’s to upscale-casual establishments like Coralli Restaurant and The Deck. Once you've had your fill of the beach, it's easy to explore the area's shopping on foot. Art galleries, gift shops, luxury stores, and more are within a five-minute walk of the beach.
The early afternoon is a great time to explore Providenciales by car. The island has many of the best beaches in the country, from the popular kiteboarding spot of Long Bay Beach to the shallow coasts of Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay.
There are also some incredibly scenic driving routes to discover, such as Turtle Tail with its mangrove ponds and coastal views and Chalk Sound National Park with its mesmerizing water color. The more remote destinations of West Harbour Bluff and Northwest Point are only accessible by Jeep or 4x4, but are wonderful places to explore.
End the day with a sunset catamaran cruise or private sailing charter, and you won't be disappointed. These 2–3 hour trips offer incredible views of the sunset and great opportunities for beautiful vacation photos. Public and private tours are offered, and usually include snacks and refreshments.
Day 3: Explore the Caicos Cays by Boat

One of the top recommended activities in the Turks and Caicos is a boat charter or a shared half-day cruise through the Caicos Cays, a group of small islands located between Providenciales and the island of North Caicos. These cays, which include the iguana sanctuary of Little Water Cay (Iguana Island) and the pristine Half Moon Bay and Water Cay, offer immaculate white sand and quiet settings, as several are uninhabited.
The typical shared boat cruise includes a snorkeling excursion to the Turks and Caicos Barrier Reef, time to stroll down the quiet beaches found on the cays and meet the endemic Turks and Caicos rock iguana, cruising time on the water, and refreshments. Private boat trips offer more flexibility—you can book a dedicated snorkeling charter to spend more time on the reef, a water sports charter to try sports like wake surfing and kiteboarding, or even a private adventure to more distant islands like West Caicos and French Cay.
For your last evening on Providenciales, try one of the island's celebrated upscale restaurants. Providenciales has a great selection of fine dining, spanning Mediterranean, Italian, and Asian cuisine, among others. Several popular fine dining restaurants, such as Lua and Casa Nonna, are located right on a beach, while others like Terra Mar and The Marine Room offer unique dining experiences and ambiances a little further inland.
Day 4: Departure

If you're an early riser, wander out to the casual Bird Rock Trail for a light morning hike with panoramic sunrise views. This short hike can be completed in an hour, and looks out onto the tiny Bird Rock and the sprawling Caicos Banks.
Alternatively, a peaceful sunrise beach walk or dip at Long Bay Beach is a lovely way to end your trip to Providenciales.
Shopping options at the airport are limited, so it's recommended to purchase any last-minute souvenirs or gifts before returning to the airport. If you plan to bring home souvenirs such as queen conch shells, alcohol, or cigars, be sure to review your country's customs allowances beforehand.
After checking out of your accommodation, head to the Providenciales International Airport (PLS) and return your rental car before boarding your flight home.
