During the winter months they also run humpback whale watching tours in the waters of the Turks and Caicos.

What Makes Turks and Caicos a Great Fishing Destination?

Anglers have long considered the Turks and Caicos Islands as prime fishing grounds for several reasons. Historically, the area has received little fishing pressure compared to other world-class destinations that have a longer history of tourism. Great fishing often happens in areas where deep, cold water meets shallow, warm water. The steep drop where the shallow Caicos Bank meets the deeper waters of the Atlantic are breeding grounds for sea life—particularly the species that anglers from around the world dream of catching.

Best of all, this drop off is just a 10-minute boat ride from shore—great fishing is within easy reach for residents and travelers. The clarity of the water adds another exciting element to the chase. People often say it’s thrilling to be able to see their catch so clearly as they’re reeling it in from the depths.

What Fish Can I Catch in Turks and Caicos?

Barracuda, mahi mahi, wahoo, blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, black fin tuna, red snapper, Nassau grouper, and sailfish are just a few of the fish you can catch in the fertile waters off Providenciales. Catch is often dependent on time of year. In the winter, you’re more likely to catch wahoo and mahi mahi, while in the summer, you’re more likely to catch blue marlin and tuna.

Catch also depends on the type of fishing you’re looking to do. Bottom fishing targets smaller fish, like snapper, jacks, grouper, and reef fish, whereas if you’re looking to catch a wahoo, marlin, or tuna, you’ll want to book a deep sea fishing expedition.

Fish in the Turks and Caicos Islands are caught for both consumption and for sport. Blue marlin and sailfish are generally catch-and-release species. Anglers who catch wahoo, snapper, tuna, and mahi mahi on Catchin’ Caicos charter trips have the option of taking their catch home for dinner. If you’re new to fishing, the crew can assist in properly cleaning your fish.

Catchin’ Caicos Fishing Tours

The Turks and Caicos offers some amazing fishing!

Catchin’ Caicos offers tours that anglers of any skill level can join. Their fishing expeditions are usually led by Captain Roy, a lifelong resident of the islands and proclaimed ‘fish whisperer’ who knows its waters intimately.

Catchin’ Caicos fishes off the coast of Providenciales as well as other islands in the archipelago. The company’s largest vessel is their 60-foot sport fishing yacht—it’s fully air conditioned, has a flat screen TV, and the right equipment for reeling in big catches like blue marlin and sailfish. For smaller groups, a 36-foot catamaran and a 26-foot skiff are part of the fleet and are excellent vessels for fishing. Half day charters last around four hours, with full day charters lasting eight.

The company sells its experiences based on its wealth of local knowledge and top-end fishing gear and equipment. On Catchin’ Caicos boats, you’ll find the latest Garmin electronics, outriggers, and reels.

Sunset and Island-Hopping Tours

Outside of fishing, the company also offers island hopping tours and sunset cruises off Providenciales. Popular destinations for island hopping and snorkeling include Half Moon Bay, a crescent beach located near Provo, and Little Water Cay, a sanctuary for the Turks and Caicos Islands Rock Iguana. Catchin’ Caicos’ sunset tours are generally a more intimate affair. They accommodate up to 15 guests and serve cocktails on the waters off Provo’s coast.

Location
