Providenciales also has the largest selection of restaurants, spas, and tourism providers, making it an excellent choice if you plan to get out and explore.
Grand Turk is home to the nation’s beachfront capital city of Cockburn Town, yet offers a slower pace of life than Providenciales. This quiet island is known for its tranquil beaches, picturesque historical buildings, and world-class scuba diving.
There’s a great selection of restored British-Bermudian colonial homes and newer villas and rental houses to choose from on Grand Turk. These tend to be simpler and more laid-back than the opulent mansions and luxury vacation rentals on Providenciales.
Vacation homes comprise the majority of lodgings on the quiet twin islands of North Caicos and Middle Caicos. Connected by a causeway, these islands have the lowest population density in the country and little infrastructure, yet boast some of the country's most beautiful landscapes and natural attractions.
Stays on these islands are typically quiet, simple, secluded, and relaxing. Given their large size, North and Middle Caicos are not walkable, so it's necessary to rent a car.
Turks and Caicos is home to several private islands with luxury vacation villas and beach homes for rent, including Pine Cay, Parrot Cay, and Ambergris Cay.
Parrot Cay has enjoyed a reputation as the top private island for exclusive and celebrity vacations for many years. Most villas on Parrot Cay are beachfront or located near the water. The residences at the island's resort, COMO Parrot Cay, each have their own private pool and butler service.
Turks and Caicos vacation rentals are typically fully furnished and stocked with everything from linens and towels to kitchen appliances and washer/dryer. Many properties offer a complete kitchen, an outdoor BBQ grill, a swimming pool, beach chairs and umbrellas, snorkeling gear, and water sports equipment such as kayaks and paddleboards. Most rental properties have air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.
The more expansive and exclusive luxury villas may also have tennis courts, a gym, Hobie Cat sailboats, a dedicated concierge, and live-in butlers and housekeeping.
The availability of villas, beach houses, and other vacation homes may be limited during peak tourism times, such as the December–April high season. Book your accommodation well in advance if you plan to visit during this time.
Booking early is also recommended for stays on North Caicos and Middle Caicos, Grand Turk, South Caicos, and Parrot Cay, as accommodations are more limited on these islands than on Providenciales.
In most cases, it's best to book directly with the property manager (or proprietors in the case of rental by owner). Booking directly can often get you the best rate on your rental.
Booking a rental home instead of a hotel can add a little complexity to your trip. Most vacation rentals are not within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. Check-in times are often later than at hotels, and many properties limit free electricity use.
As with hotel stays, all rental villas must charge a 12% Government Tourism Tax on stays. This may or may not be included in the listed price.

Things to Do in Turks & Caicos
The Turks and Caicos is a top Caribbean beach destination, owing to its glimmering turquoise water and characteristic white sand. All of the main islands have a spectacular beach to discover, whether it's world-class Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales, Governor's Beach on Grand Turk, or Bambarra Beach on Middle Caicos.
A great way to maximize time spent at the beach is to book a beachfront villa or vacation home. Long Bay, Leeward, and Sapodilla Bay on Providenciales are popular beachfront villa locations.
A private yacht charter or a shared cruise is one of the top things to do in the islands. There's a large selection of tour types to browse, from relaxing sunset cruises to half-day and full-day boat tours, island-hopping charters, and water sports cruises.
The most popular boating destination in the country is the Caicos Cays, a string of small islands near Providenciales where you can encounter endemic Turks and Caicos rock iguanas, explore uninhabited cays, and wade into a serene lagoon.
There are so many ways to be active on vacation, from snorkeling to scuba diving, kayaking, jet skiing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Several popular rental home locations are excellent for water sports. Long Bay Beach on Provo is one of the top kiteboarding spots in the region, while incredible scuba diving can be found minutes from Cockburn Town Beach on Grand Turk.
Many luxury vacation rentals include non-motorized water sports equipment, such as kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel gear.
The natural attractions you can discover in Turks and Caicos range from sprawling dry cave systems to brilliant lagoons, towering limestone cliffs, and cays with curious rock iguanas. Many are free to visit, with a few charging an entry fee for upkeep.
There's also a fascinating history to explore, from the time of the indigenous Lucayan people to that of European explorers, pirates, and Bermudian salt traders. The country's national museum is located on Grand Turk.
There is no public transportation in Turks and Caicos, so rental cars and taxis are the primary means of getting around. Renting a car, Jeep, or SUV provides you with the greatest flexibility, and is often the most cost-effective transportation option. Most rental car companies offer drop-off and pickup at the country's airports and ferry terminals (and some offer delivery to villas).
Nearly all international flights land at the Providenciales International Airport, so it's necessary to take a domestic flight or ferry if you've booked a vacation rental on another island.
Getting Around
There's great dining to be found in Turks and Caicos. Providenciales is the center of fine dining, whereas the outer islands are best known for their local cuisine.
Many restaurants incorporate the bounty of fresh seafood the surrounding ocean provides into their dishes. Great local dishes include cracked conch, grilled lobster tail, and steamed snapper.
