Located in Cockburn Harbour, Caicos Seafood is a small factory that processes the fish, conch and lobster brought in by local fisherman. The mainstay of the South Caicos economy, here you can see catches fresh from the ocean unloaded from small fishing boats, weighed, cleaned, packaged and frozen for export to the international market.
All of the products processed at Caicos Seafood are gathered by low-impact methods; fish are caught by hand with hook and line, lobster with small traps or by hand, and conch with a snorkel mask. Nets, long line fishing and the use of scuba gear for collecting conch and lobster is illegal in the Turks and Caicos.
During work hours, short tours are offered of this plant. Due to the limited number of visitors to South Caicos, tours are not regularly scheduled, so inquire at the office or call ahead to make arrangements.
